WHEN IN ROME
flying home tomorrow (flap, flap), my thesis and independent project in disarray, my apartment a mess. oh well. i love that after a dirty martini and a glass of wine, i find myself somehow here, in my thesis carrel, comme d'habitude. this is a sure sign that i need to go home -- both the pretentious french and the sad attachment to the school library.
had a poem accepted today by the bat city review, a journal that i really wholeheartedly love (in their latest issue: zachary schomburg, matthew zapruder, mary jo bang); it'll be out with their next issue. good news in the face of today: snow, oversleeping, snow, my independent project refusing to close its ugly eyes and sleep next to me. i've been walking home from these late nights down the middle of the road -- the sidewalks aren't clear, but the streets are. lights go on and off as the snow falls heavier. between headphone songs you can hear the whirr of generators. i like it. it's a good final memory to have of my time at this school.
finally, my favorite thing from this semester's research? robert lowell's lifelong nickname 'cal' was given to him in college because his 'scruffy habits and rebellious pronouncements' reminded his friends of caligula. i feel like the same scenario today would result in you being called 'boner'. more and more i wish i lived midcentury, minus maybe the cold war and the wrap dresses.
this blog has gotten increasingly sober, though i more often write it now when i've had a drink or two and decided that it's a good idea to make my own POETICAL PRONOUNCEMENTS. i'm fresh out tonight, i'm sorry. i'll see what i can rustle up over my holiday break.

Congrats on the publication Bri! I would love to read some of your poems, if you ever want to send a few my way.
is this blog lewdpsUEdonym or lewdpsEUdonym?
john: i hate to not give you a straight answer but i'm going to refer you to my entry on august 30th. just so i don't type it out and seize up with extreme embarrassment again...
